Individual Culture

The "building blocks" of culture are present in both intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics at this level of culture.

An understanding of individual culture is important for successfully addressing the concerns at of the other five levels of culture. In work contexts, particularly when there is ambiguity, uncertainty, or complexity of a culturally diverse employee-, customer-, and supplier base, the ability to influence, persuade, and build trust enables individual effectiveness.

At the individual/interpersonal level, COA Practitioners can use the Cultural Orientations Approach to help individual employees, managers, and leaders with:

  • Development of intercultural leadership skills
  • Expatriate and repatriate success strategies
